Trail Femmes in 2024: Redefining the Trails, One Run at a Time

Our 2024!

Earlier this year when a small yet determined group of four women embarked on a journey to redefine their relationship with the trails, it began the story of Trail Femmes, a women-only trail running collective with a mission to empower, inspire, and explore.

The Spark

Trail running is often seen as intimidating, especially for women, given its challenges and the societal norms that discourage venturing into less-trodden paths. Sanjay Van run on February 10 earlier this year marked a start for something new. The idea was simple: create a safe, inclusive space where women could not only run but also connect with nature, themselves, and each other.

Community Connects

Every month since then, Trail Femmes has organized group runs in varied terrains, from forest trails to rocky outcrops. These gatherings are not just about running; they are celebrations of camaraderie, resilience, and mutual encouragement. Each session starts with trail exploration and ends with shared laughter, snacks, and stories.

By the Numbers

  • Group Runs: 15; Community Connects: 11

  • Trails Explored: 8

  • Total Distance Covered: 3,000+ km

  • Participants per Session: 18+

Breaking Barriers

Trail Femmes has been about more than running; it’s about challenging barriers. Many women join us with apprehensions – about their fitness levels, safety, or simply the fear of the unknown. By creating an environment of support and shared learning, we’ve seen these doubts turn into triumphs. From covering their first 5K on trails to tackling steeper ascents, our members have grown not just as runners but as confident trailblazers.

Highlights of the Journey

  1. Exploring New Locations: From the serene Aravali Biodiversity Park to hidden gems like Mangar Trails, each run introduces members to fresh landscapes and challenges.

  2. Knowledge Sharing: Trail running techniques, navigating uneven terrains, pacing, and discussions on women-friendly gear have equipped members with confidence.

  3. Celebrating Individual Milestones: Every achievement—whether it’s a first trail race or carving out time for self-care—is celebrated as a collective win.

  4. Encouraging Newcomers: Trail Femmes actively encourages beginners to take their first steps on trails. With a no-judgment ethos, the group ensures everyone feels welcome, no matter their experience level.

Trails Explored

Trail Femmes has explored eight trails across the region, including:

  1. Sanjay Van, Delhi

  2. Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, Faridabad

  3. Aravali Biodiversity Park, Delhi

  4. Mangar Trails to Panikot Lake, Faridabad

  5. Bhondsi Trails, Gurgaon

  6. Leopard Trails, Gurgaon

  7. Aravali Trails, Gurgaon

  8. Malcha Forest, Delhi

The Power of Community

Trail Femmes stands as a testament to the power of community. In a world where women often face undue pressures, this collective has become a sanctuary for growth and self-discovery. Beyond running, friendships have flourished, fears have been conquered, and a deep appreciation for nature has taken root.

Looking Ahead

As 2025 approaches, Trail Femmes remains committed to inspiring more women to explore trails and push boundaries. Plans include:

  • Introducing new trail explorations and camping experiences.

  • Collaborating with other running communities.

  • Improving women’s participation in trail and ultra events.

Trail Femmes is also hosting the Bhatti Mines Ultra on Women’s Day weekend in 2025—a trail race designed to elevate women’s experiences.
